Eight people from
3 international banks: ABN AMRO Australia Limited, Natural
Resources Institutional Banking and Rotschild Bank; Australian
based consulting firms NSR Environmental Consultants Pty. Ltd.,
and SRK Consulting visited the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project of
Lafayette (Phils.), Inc. last October 13, 2003. The group which
is composed of financial managers, geologists and mining
engineers, validated critical data in the Feasibility Study as
well as the on-going activities in the area preparatory to the
release of financing by the 3 banks.

A
sociologist who also came with the group met with the barangay
chairmen of Pagcolbon, Malobago and Binosawan to gather
information on the various concerns of the direct impact
communities regarding the project.
On
hand to brief the visitors on the role of government in the
project are DENR officials RD Reynulfo Juan of MGB-5, RTD
William Palaypayon of ERDS who represented the RED of DENR-5,
Engr. Jason Magdaong who represented the RD of EMB-5, staff of
MGB-5 namely Engrs. Sulpicio Bernardo III and Ricardo Nacional,
Dr. Elsa D. Rejoso and Ms. Madelyn Domasig. LPI Managing Director
Andrew McIlwain, Country Manager Roderick Watt and Project
Engineer Rogelio Corpus took charge of showing the visitors
around the development area and supplying them with all the
necessary documents.
After
the site visit the group met with Albay Governor Francis Al
Bichara to get his views on the LGU role in the implementation
of the project.
