51st Mines and Geosciences National Management Conference held

STO.DOMINGO, ALBAY-The 51st Mines and Geosciences National Management Conference was held on August 17-19,2005 at the Mayon Spring Resort this Municipality.

Hosted by the regional office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Bicol (MGB-V), the national management conference was attended by MGB regional directors coming from region 1 to 13, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), top officials and concerned division chiefs from MGB Central Offices and national officers of the MGB Employees Union (MGBEA).

The management conference accomplished its very objective allowing the participants to discuss new and important policies on Mining Tenements which include newly issued Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Orders (DAO) on Exploration Permit (EP), pending mining applications and on cleansing and cancelled tenements; Proposed DAO amendments on Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) and Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and 

 


abandoned mines; Geohazards Projects and the proposed United States Geological Society (USGS) project on mineral database; Small-scale Mining; Mineral Action Plan (MAP); Communication Plan; Fiscal Regime; Philippine Mineral Ore Reserves Reporting System; Work Program for the Mineral Reservations; Flagship Mining Projects; Minerals Development Council (MDC); Budget and Finance matters covering CY 2005 budget status and utilization and The MGB Rationalization Plan in consonance with E.O. 366.

MGB-V for its part, also presented in the conference its GPOA accomplishments; Zero Back-log Plan and Status of Mining Tenements in Bicol; Status Report on the Flagship and Exploration Projects in Bicol; Small-Scale Mining activities and Review and Field Scanning of Abandoned Mines in Bicol.

Other highlights of the just concluded 3-day management conference include a visitation to the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project (RRPP) in Rapu-Rapu, Albay and a forum/business meetings with mining clienteles and heads of LGUs. (LDValdez)
