Mining museum now open for public viewing
LEGAZPI CITY-“Our mining
museum is now open for public viewing” said Bicol Mines and Geosciences
Bureau regional director Reynulfo A. Juan.
The museum, he said,
showcases the different rocks and ore minerals typical in the Bicol
Region including antique or relic mining equipments and paraphernalia
used in the different facets of mining undertaken in the past by
operating mining companies in the Bicol Region.
"The rocks and ores include
metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks and metallic and
non-metallic minerals and ores including metal concentrates and finished
mineral products” Juan said.
“The museum also showcases
the rich history of the mining industry in Bicol and highlights the
important contribution of the mining sector to the regional economy” he
added.
Director Juan is inviting
students in the elementary, high school and college taking science or
science related courses, the academe, researchers and individual or
groups in the private or government sectors interested in mining to
visit the museum.
“The museum is open from
Monday to Friday, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 10:00AM
to 3:00PM and located just beside the DENR-V annex building in Rawis,
Legazpi City” Juan said.
Juan however said his office
should be informed in writing a week in advance so that the necessary
