In August 2004, the amount of P500,000.00 has been allotted by
the DENR to alternative livelihood project for compressor miners
in Paracale, Camarines Norte. Todate, this amount has not yet
been downloaded to the people’s organizations (PO’s) that
will administer the livelihood project since they are not fully
organized yet. The Municipal Local Government of Paracale is
still facilitating the registration of the PO’s with
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

It will be recalled that last June 24,2004 the then Secretary
Elisea G.Gozun visited Paracale and met local officials,
non-government organizations, peoples organizations and other
mining stakeholders to find out proposed solutions to the
problem on compressor mining. She pledged P500,000.00 for
alternative livelihood project to compressor miners that will be
displaced once compressor mining is abolished.(LDValdez)
